The Soul Series Conclusion is Here!

I am so seriously excited to announce that the conclusion of the Soul Series, Soul Deep, is finally available in all venues! (Paperback coming soon.)

When I started this series so many years ago, I didn’t know what would happen for everyone (except their happy endings, of course). One thing I did know, though, was that Tars would eventually get his redemption. I don’t want to say the happiness he deserved, because at the time, he didn’t deserve it at all. But a decade passes between the first book and the fourth, and his redemption is fully within reach.

I really, really loved writing this book. Alexa and Ryc play a prominent role, with Sam and Rock part of the mission. The heroine is Ke’an Oliviera, who had been abducted by Pike Laurent in Soulflight because of her ability to breathe underwater. She and Tars get off to a rocky start, and then have to deal with a stalker (hers) and a megalomaniac billionaire idiot who nonetheless has the potential to do incredible amounts of damage all of the world. Brook and Peter from Harte and Soul also make an appearance. You’ll see a couple of other familiar faces, too.

As a reminder, Soul of the Dragon is free in e-book. Starting next week, you’ll be able to enter a Goodreads giveaway for a print copy.

The Release of…The First Sentence: A collection of romance novellas

I am really excited to tell you about my new project!

A couple of years ago, I was at a conference with a bunch of authors I know, hanging in the bar after all the workshops and events of the day were done. It was a nice bar. Comfy seats. Most of us don’t ever drink, so this wasn’t one of those “brilliant” ideas you think better of the next morning. It was still brilliant!

We were all talking (probably) about how much of a bummer it is when you have a story idea you love and then you see an author—usually one more well-known than you are—with a book using that idea. Even though you KNOW that author wrote a totally different book than you would, because that’s how it goes. You give 10 people a writing prompt and they’ll all write very different things.

And Misty Simon said, “WE SHOULD TOTALLY DO THAT!!!!”

And so we did.

Introducing THE FIRST SENTENCE
A collection of romance novellas

We ended up with five stories by five authors, all beginning with the same sentence. From new adult to contemporary, paranormal to futuristic, with a post-apoc style weather event thrown in, we run the gamut of romantic subgenres. These are emotional adventurous stories we had a ton of fun writing. And they are FREE!

I probably should have mentioned that sooner.

So go check it out, and stay tuned for The Second Sentence, which we’re already working on! The degree of difficulty will increase each time, and you know you want to witness it! 🙂

The premise: That if 5 authors start with the same sentence, they will all write vastly different stories. The results: made of awesome. From contemporary to futuristic, these novellas have a little bit of everything, but most especially—love-filled happy endings.

Rebound by Allison B. Hanson
After wallowing in agony for weeks after a bad break-up, Reese is set up on a blind date. Reluctantly, he goes and meets the girl of his dreams. The only problem? He was at the wrong place and met the wrong girl. Now, desperate to find her, he scours the campus as fate weaves an impossible journey.

Lost and Found by Misty Simon
When Mike Emory sees his ex’s post on social media that she’s looking for her lost dog, he’s out the door in a flash. Their break-up was not amicable, but he loved that dog and can’t imagine him on his own. Elsie Hews has been scouring the streets for hours when she runs into the last person she wants helping her—the guy who never seemed to think she was capable of doing anything herself. This is her dog, though, her baby, and she’ll accept Mike’s help to find him, then say goodbye again. Or that’s the plan, at least…

Frozen Dreams by Victoria Smith
When a dangerous weather anomaly strikes, Jane will do whatever it takes to travel to be with her family. Even if it means getting stuck with her husband, Adam. Instead of talking to him about how they will never have a family, she took the chicken route and left, despite being deeply in love with him. Now they must face the storm and their emotions.

Through the Void by Natalie J. Damschroder
There’s only one thing Vix can do when she finds out about the secret life that has led to her husband’s coma—make that life hers. When she goes on her first mission through the void, however, she finds not only a new self-purpose, but her lost husband, as well. She did the impossible once. Can she do it again, and bring him home?

A Real Boy by Vicky Burkholder
Jillian Night is on the hunt for inter-planetary kidnappers. Her bosses demand she have a partner, but Jillian has had enough of human ones. She prefers to work alone so Fleet assigns her one of the new androids. Zeus is a little too real for Jillian’s comfort and she finds herself attracted to him—until she meets the real man pulling the strings. Maybe having a real, live partner wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Today, Natalie Finally Does Superheroes

NJD_TheColorofCourage_400x600It’s release day!

See that cover? When she saw it, my daughter declared that cover her favorite of all my covers. It didn’t start out that way. When I got the first draft, it had a guy on the cover. Which is fine. He wasn’t my kind of cover model and didn’t really fit any of the characters, but does that matter? Nah. Except this book is first person from Daley Charm’s point of view, so having a guy on the cover is a little misleading.

This was round 2. And she’s kind of perfect. See that little tilt of the head, the way she looks at you from under her eyelids, that bravado hiding insecurity and self-doubt? That’s ALL Daley. She’s an empath who can see emotions manifest as colors. Which is very helpful to her team of superheroes because she can see where people are in a building, anticipate what they’re going to do, help find survivors on a rescue mission, and more. But since her ability isn’t physical like everyone else’s, she sometimes feels like more of a liability than an asset.

And of course, when the bad guys start targeting her team, that becomes the core of her conflict.

I’m really excited to finally bring my superhero series to my readers! I hope you like The Color of Courage.

From high-rise ledges to charming residential neighborhoods in Washington, DC, a team of superheroes saves people and battles villains…while struggling with bill collectors, day jobs, and complicated love lives.

Empath Daley Charm feels like the weakest member of the city’s superhero team—especially when someone targets them for destruction. Her insecurities also complicate her relationship with team leader Adam Tarantino, especially since she can’t “see” emotions that are about her.

When missions start going dramatically wrong, Adam pulls away even more, knowing his feelings would reveal an exploitable weakness that could mean the end of the team. As they struggle to discover who’s sabotaging their missions, Daley must confront her own self-worth and faith in her abilities. Does she step away to protect her friends, or stand with them and risk someone getting hurt…or worse?

New Release! Aftershocks is finally here!

Aftershocks FinalI am so excited to finally bring you this book!

I call Aftershocks a cross between National Treasure and Sweet Home Alabama, the Reese Witherspoon movie. Zoe must find a missing treasure and stop the madman after both it and her, and she’s doing so with the help of two very different guys. Grant’s a mercenary, kind of rough, and he’s part of the past she has worked REALLY hard to leave behind. Kell is a polished attorney who’s very comfortable in a ballroom.

But during the quest, Zoe finds that both men are more complex than they seem, and her relationships with them reveal a lot more about herself than she knew was there.

And, of course, as is common in my books, there are bad guys and good guys and thwarted goals and life-threatening situations all along the way. You can read an excerpt here, and if you want more, purchase at Amazon.

Happy reading!

Brianna’s Navy SEAL Released!

If you’ve never read my Brook Hollow Trilogy of contemporary romances, now’s your chance. All three books are now available, with the release of Brianna’s Navy SEAL today!

Kira’s Best Friend leads it off, and all of my royalties on that book are being donated to hospice charities. (See that book page for details.) Then Sophie’s Playboy fills the middle, and Brianna’s Navy SEAL serves as a transition to my romantic adventure books. All three books stand alone, and BNS only has a mild adventure-y subplot, if full-on romantic suspense isn’t your thing.

I hope you enjoy them!

My Favorite Bit from New Release Harte and Soul

harteandsoulfinalMarch is going to make the rest of 2015 pure letdown.

I swear, I didn’t intend to make Letting Go available at all retail venues, have a short story in a special anthology, release the third book in The Soul Series, AND bring back Blue Silver all in the same month. I mean, that would be seriously poor planning.

But that’s the way it happened.

So anyway, because Harte and Soul is finally here, the first book in the series, Soul of the Dragon, is now free! Soulflight (book 2, of course) is also at a reduced price.

I’ll have an official post about Blue Silver in a week or so. But in the meantime, here’s a bit of a scene from Harte and Soul. It’s not my favorite scene overall, but it’s a bit that tickles me. 🙂

They studied the building. The image wasn’t high quality because of the dark, and there seemed to be only one light on downstairs, maybe a dim light upstairs.

“Any vehicles?” Peter asked.

Rock swiped. “BMW.”

“The one registered to Vali?”

“Couldn’t get close enough to see the plate with the angle he’d parked at. No other cars, but that doesn’t mean he’s alone.”

“Have to assume he’s not,” Ryc agreed.

“Two access points.” He showed a zoomed-in photo of the front door and then another shot of the rear of the cabin. “Porches on both sides, so that’s going to be noisier. We’ll have to split into three teams. One to stay outside, one go in the front, one in the back. No idea about the floorplan. There’s no time to get that, so we have to wing it.”

“So it’s pretty much just bust in and take down whoever’s inside?” Ryc asked.

“No guns.” Peter braced his hands on the table.

“They’ll probably have guns,” Alexa warned. “We’ll be at a huge disadvantage if we can’t protect ourselves.”

“I know.” He straightened and looked around the group. “I didn’t ask any of you to do this, not explicitly. I’m beyond grateful that you just joined up to help.”

“Well, of course we’re going to!” Samantha threw up her hands. “You don’t have to ask. This is family. So don’t you dare try to tell us we can stay behind if we don’t want to take this risk. That’s just wasting time.”

He smiled briefly. “Okay. Consider it out there, and I won’t—”

“Dude.” Ryc shoved his shoulder. “Shut the fuck up.”

“We don’t have to be unarmed.” Rock walked over to his SUV and opened the hatch, hauling out a long, heavy black box and lowering it to the ground. He unsnapped the latches and flipped it open. “Riot gear.”

Brook leaned over the box. “Rubber pellet rifles?”

“The best in non-lethal weaponry.”

“Which could still kill.” Peter lifted one out of the box. “I don’t like it.”

Alexa took it from him. “That’s why only the best shots will use them, and you’ll have to trust us to aim properly.”

He finally nodded, and they continued.

“I could only get two of these,” Rock said. “But we have two stun guns, too.”

“Awesome.” Alexa took over. “Okay, then Rock, you and I can be outside, front and back, with the rifles. Ryc and Brook can take the stunners. Samantha—”

“I’ve been practicing.” She reached into the hatch and pulled out a short staff and the kubaton she’d had earlier. “I’ll come in behind and work cleanup.”

“Good. You and Peter go in the front, Brook and Ryc the back. Did you see a house alarm?” she asked Rock.

“There’s an access box on the rear porch. I couldn’t see what kind it is, so I don’t know if we can disable it.”

“He’s too far out to be wired directly to the police. We can just cut the lines, and if it sets off the alarm, we move faster.”

“I’m smelling a lot of ‘if’ coming off this plan,” Ryc muttered.

Surprised, Brook laughed. Four people stared at her. “Sorry. He quoted Firefly.” When they just continued to stare, she cleared her throat and looked down. “Anyway.” When the others looked away, Ryc surreptitiously put out his fist. Brook bumped it.

Renegade Reissued

Renegade coverI’ve just reissued one of my favorite novellas!

Check it out on the Renegade page.

This is a rare foray into true menage territory. I confess to liking a good romantic triangle, where all three parties are worthy of each other, but I don’t usually go the “sharing” route. This story does that, though there’s a two-person happy ending that I hope everyone will like. 🙂

Full Fusion is Here!

Full Fusion CoverI am SO excited to announce the release of my first YA novel, Full Fusion. It is now live at several retailers at a special launch price of only 99 cents! The rest should be up in the next day or two. You can watch the book page for updated links. But right now you can get it at:

Here’s the blurb:

Eighteen-year-old Roxie Sebastian lives a charmed life, and she knows it. Too bad she can’t feel it. All her life, she’s felt disconnected from the world around her. Everything changes just before graduation, when she’s drawn to an eerie, brilliant light—which narrowly misses her as it blows up her friend Lincoln’s car. Clearly someone’s after Roxie, and finally Lincoln tells her the truth: He and Roxie are angels, beings from another dimension, and that light is her soul, separated from her human body in a traumatic birth.

Once a skeptical Roxie rules out the other possibilities—like Lincoln created this delusion to escape his abusive father—she accepts her gut-deep knowledge of the truth. But someone has been screwing with her light, using it to commit crimes, and their actions are about to cause irreparable damage to two worlds: the one she lives in, and the one she can’t remember.

Aided by her best friend Jordan, her boyfriend Tucker, and Lincoln, Roxie tracks down the criminal and uncovers many more secrets not only of her past, but of the history of their race on Earth. And then Roxie faces a horrible dilemma—the only way she can stop them from ripping apart both worlds is to fuse with her light…which could be tainted by the evil with which it was used.
