Hunter's Song
(out of print)
Hunter Cole is family-bound, and Nikki Winter and her infant daughter
Montana seem to fit right into his plans. But he'll have a fight from
Nikki, who is determined to keep her hard-won independence.
About the book:
I began writing
Hunter’s Song soon after my first daughter was born. During my
pregnancy my creativity had been “blocked”—it was busy creating Dakota,
I guess!—so once we were past the initial months of adjustment, Hunter’s
Song flowed from my brain to my fingertips like…well, like music.
Dakota played a
huge role in creating Montana, of course. Many nights she swung happily
next to my desk, or nursed while I typed. Some of Montana’s milestones
were also Dakota’s, and I give her credit whenever a reader comments on
the realism of the relationship between Montana and Nikki.
People often ask if
I play the violin. I haven’t since fourth grade, but have regretted
quitting all my life. Someday I hope to pick it up again, but until
then, I used my writing to fulfill that need.
Life always seems
to come full circle, and it did with Hunter’s Song. I sold the book to
Avid Press—my first sale—a few months after my second daughter was
born. McKenna was the same age as Montana during the time we were
preparing the book for publication. Reading Hunter’s Song was
even sweeter because I was once again living Nikki’s circumstances.
I set Hunter’s
Song in Misquamicut, Rhode Island, because it is my favorite
location in the world. The little beach town is rustic and fun and I’ve
always dreamed of living there. There’s something about the sea at that
point on the East coast that echoes my pattern of life. Hunter feels
it, and so does Nikki. It feeds them, even if they don’t know it. I
have fictionalized the town, however, and no characters or businesses in
the book are representative of anyone in the real town.
Reviews:
Four Stars from
Romantic Times!
"Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle, Hunter's Song is laced
with sexual tension from the opening to the end. In this twist on
tradition, Nikki Winter is the single mother who wants hot sex and no
commitment from Hunter Cole. He, on the other hand, is looking for a
wife. He thinks Nikki and her little girl Montana are the perfect
beginning to his family.
"If I
tell you any more, I will give away too much of this engaging story.
There are twists and turns along the way that will shock and delight
you. A great read!"

"Ms.
Damschroder has created a delightful romance whose characters come alive
from the very first page...a well thought out plot and characters that
had me laughing out loud and, yes, wiping a few tears from my eyes. I'll
be looking for more work from Ms. Damschroder."
--Sharon Jennings,
Word Museum
"Ms. Damschroder's
writing is clean and smooth, paced just right for a contemporary story
which takes place in a small resort town. Although parts of the story
moved along almost too slowly, I found the book sexy and moving and
enjoyed reading it. This is an author to watch."
